As you might’ve read in a few of my previous posts of 2019, the problems which I faced in my college with my attention span and creativity decreasing. You also read about various causes which made me worried about the higher education system’s fiasco of our own country.
I finally found a solution for this; at least for my own benefits and that is, one and only, books.
With books I can find my old self returning in me, perhaps I feel like I’m better than before.
This article won’t just feature my bhaashan like every time, but this time I recorded the books I read from 1st January 2020 to 29th February 2020 on an excel worksheet and visualized the data through bar graphs.
So given above is the first graph which depicts the number of books I read in a matter of two months. I read thirty-eight books in total, thirty-two of which were in English, four in Hindi and two in Sanskrit.
Though, these books are not much in number. I once came to read a title of a video on Youtube in which a man had read 735 books in a year.
So let me tell you the ways in which you can read more.
1. Buy The Books
There are plenty of bookstores everywhere these days. Unfortunately, in my city, this culture is slowly dying out. You’ll find various bookstores selling textbooks but even the most reputable one which catered to all sorts of bibliophiles turned to just selling the textbooks only. The current library doesn’t serve my purpose. The library with the Imperial Grandeur is no longer functional.
In Dehradun, this is not the case, there are various bookstores.
You can order books online as well. There’s also an option for ebooks these days.
2. Buy Pre-Owned Books
Condition of pre-owned books may vary from place to place. It’s up to you. But second hand books are cheap and easily available. I too have had the opportunity to buy so many books myself.
In late August and early September, when I wasn’t satisfied with my college library and didn’t have an absolute idea of where to head then, I bought a lot of books every week.
3. Join A Library
Libraries’ trend is also degrading these days. They’re hardly able to make it. The current library of my city doesn’t serve my purpose. The library with the Imperial Grandeur is no longer functional.
In Dehradun, this is not the case, there are three libraries still functional as far as my knowledge is concerned. I’m a member of one of them.
To join a library is the best advice I can give you.
In a library, you get to explore books of various genres. There’s no limit. Some libraries allow you to recommend some books to order.
The library of which I’m a member charges Rs.1000 as security and Rs.300 as annual fee. So, while joining it, I paid Rs.1300 in total. Now, coming up to worth, let me show you the chart.
I read Books in English worth Rs.6845, Hindi books worth Rs.50 and Sanskrit books worth Rs.50 (Exclusive of a few books which didn’t have prices mentioned on them, as the database assumed their prices to be NIL).
Following is the Bar Graph showing the number of books I read segregated on the basis of different genres.
Though, I’ve a collection of books at home as well, still, I needed to know more, so joining the library proved to be a good decision. I seek pardon, but I can’t reveal the name and location of the library currently.
Here’s another chart showing the number of books I read on the basis of their status of ownership.
4. Audiobooks
There’s no problem if reading troubles you, you can listen to your books instead. What say?
Audiobooks is another rising trend which is feasible for almost anyone.
Audible is one such platform which lets you have the subscription of your first month for free. Moreover, the first audiobook which you download is free.
5. Read Summaries
Not everyone is fond of reading. But, yes, everyone is curious of upgrading his knowledge.
In today’s world, the knowledge of books is not just limited to books, but all the spheres of life. If you can’t read the book, let anyone else do it for you. Read the summaries of books over the internet. Watch videos of different topics. Pursue online courses.
Conclusion
What you want to read in which format do you want to read it is your decision. You must just keep in mind the pros and cons of each option.
